Chapter 12

“Where the hell is he!”

Lily sat straight up at the roar.

“Where is my mate?” the voice thundered.

Lily rubbed her eyes and turned to look at Grayson whose eyes were completely amber. He growled.

Then Clair was in the bedroom doorway. Her hair was wild, her eyes amber and she was snarling. “Where the fuck is Jet?” she screamed.

“Not in here,” Grayson growled low in his throat.

Lily shushed him.

“Clair? Are you okay? Has something happened to Jet?” Lily crossed the room. Her skin chilled in the cool night air. She’d left a window open and she was still naked. She needed to close it. She grabbed her robe from the chair and tugged it on. “Clair?” Lily wrapped an arm around her and felt the coiled muscles, felt the way she was barely maintaining control. “Shh, Clair.” Lily rubbed her back and Clair fell into her arms. “It’s okay,” Lily soothed. “He hasn’t been here and I haven’t seen him since we came back on Sunday. Is he missing?”

“He’s with a she-wolf. I scented her yesterday but he said that he was comforting a new pack member and that was all. He’s been gone five hours now and won’t answer his cell. He always answers the cell for me.”

And for me, Lily thought, even in the middle of sex he answers, creepy and gross as it is.

“My imagination may be running away with me but that scent coupled with this…I’m worried.” A fat tear traveled down Clair’s pale cheek.

Lily led her to the edge of the bed and pulled her to sit.

“I’m sorry, I interrupted.” Claire glanced at Grayson.

“It’s fine. We were sleeping. You didn’t interrupt anything,” Grayson offered.

She nodded. “Jet and I haven’t been getting along. He wants pups and I want them too, really bad, but we can’t seem to get pregnant.”

Lily’s heart nearly broke. That was torture for a wolf, the inability to reproduce. Sometimes though, it happened.

“It doesn’t matter how often we…I just can’t get pregnant.”

Lily bit her lip and thought. “So you guys are doing this all the time and you’re not getting along?”

Clair nodded.

“Maybe he’s not enjoying it anymore,” Grayson offered, and Lily shook her head almost imperceptibly. He mouthed ‘sorry.’

“Yeah, he hates sex so much that he’s out screwing another wolf,” Clair sobbed.

Crap. How did she always get dragged into Jet’s drama? She heard Grayson sigh.

“Clair, I’m new at this mating stuff but here’s what I know. If you’re doing it all the time and not getting along too, it’s become work for him. That should be fun, not a chore. It should be relished and you should both look forward to it. If he is out with another woman, you’ll have to deal with her on your own. Now where Jet is concerned, you guys have to talk this out and you both need a break from sex.”

“I’ll never get pregnant like that.” Clair sniffled.

“You aren’t getting pregnant like this either. I read in a book once that the male only has sperm once a day, so having sex before twenty-four hours is up is pointless.
